The long dispute between Volkswagen and the US authorities has finally been resolved out of court. During last year's seemingly eternal rail strike, an arbitrator brought about a solution between Deutsche Bahn and the train drivers' union. And in tricky decisions such as Stuttgart 21 or the further expansion of Frankfurt Airport, independent third parties also helped to resolve the situation. Why does it often help in conflicts when a mediator, arbitrator or even a judge intervenes?<\/p>\n

Mediator, judge and arbitrator<\/h3>\n

Mediators, arbitrators and judges have very different roles. Judges act on behalf of the people. Conciliators offer solutions and make suggestions. Mediation, on the other hand, involves solution-orientated negotiations between the parties.<\/p>\n
